Accountability
“If it’s to be, it’s up to thee.
If it’s more you want, be accountable to me.”
Accountability is, in our experience, the most crucial part of goal achievement. When you take the time to report to someone else how and what you did in moving toward your goals, it lends even more focus and motivation to your activities.
You may be more or less disciplined than others, but only another person can hold you accountable. This is your chance to get objective feedback that will help you stay on track and refocus for the next time period. In the end, good accountability always improves performance.
There are several methods of accountability listed below. Start by choosing the method of accountability and who you want to hold you accountable. Then, decide how often you’ll meet. You will also need to work out some of the details, like what you will measure and what will be the consequence for not achieving your goals.

Key Questions
Whether you are being held accountable or holding someone else accountable, consider these key questions for each goal:
- What was your goal?
- How did you do? What happened?
- How do you feel about that? What are your thoughts?
- What did you learn?
- Based on how you did and how you feel, now what will you do?
- Do you know how to do it?
- Is there anything else you need to do it?
Consulting
Consulting is the exciting opportunity for one-on-one personal/career counseling. Consultants don’t give you the solutions to your problems, but rather they help you "self-discover" your own right answers. The consultant helps you establish realistic 1-5 year goals and plans. Then, through regular consulting sessions, he or she assists you in reviewing your progress and continually fine tuning your actions.
Some people refer to consulting as coaching. We believe that, although the process is similar, the relationship is different. In coaching, the relationship is one of employment or supervision. The coach can hire or fire. A coach decides who gets to play. In consulting, there is no supervisory relationship, and the consultee ultimately chooses what to do. In fact, a consultee can fire the consultant.
Consulting has the potential to be more effective than masterminding because of the amount of time spent focusing on you—your goals, your issues, and your results.

Peer Consulting Partner Program
Consulting with a peer consulting partner is a great way for you to be part of a reciprocal consulting relationship. A peer consulting partnership with mutual levels of respect and comfortableness can be a true "win-win" opportunity, in which you:
- Hold each other accountable to your goals.
- Provide basic consulting for one another in the areas where you need assistance.
- Learn what accountability sessions are like from the "being held accountable" end.
- Learn how to conduct accountability and consulting sessions.
Seeing the consulting relationship from both sides can be especially enriching. A peer consulting partnership not only gives you the benefits of accountability, it also gives you a deeper insight into goal achievement through the opportunity of holding someone else accountable.
