Rituals

“If it’s your will, there is a way.
The best follow rituals every day.”

The final evolution in becoming truly productive in your life (being a productivity warrior) is the process of building productivity habits. Habits in their simplest sense are rituals that are followed daily. And before these rituals become unconscious habits, they begin as conscious rules.

You articulate and choose the rules of daily behavior that you believe will guide you to the habits you want—the habits that will lead you to your goals. Below are five rules that are highly recommended:

3-Foot Rule

You can’t control the whole world, but you can control your world (what gets within 3 feet of you). Productivity warriors control their 3-foot zone. They use space to avoid distraction and interruption. It’s a matter of controlling your focus and time by controlling your environment—your desk, calendar, and gatekeeper.

80/20 Rule

Make sure the 20% that matters the most gets done first (the power of the 4-1-1).

Be There Rule

Do one thing at a time. Wherever you are, be there, and work at being appropriate in the moment.

Play-Prep-Pay Rule

Go to your calendar and schedule your entire year’s playtime (fun and family—no work) first. Next, schedule your entire year’s prep time (organization and planning). Lastly, schedule your pay time (productivity—your 20%).

Unique Ability and Leverage Rule

To maximize your professional achievement, financial income, and personal satisfaction, you must work at knowing, developing and using your highest competencies and unique abilities. “Do what you do best and delegate the rest.” Use leverage (people, systems, and tools) to stay in your unique ability.
