Registering and Redirecting Domain Names

Agents Please Note: Agents are NOT permitted to use Keller Williams trademarks in domain names or meta tags.

Market Centers Only:  Market Centers that have received a domain name license may use KW trademarks online. Market Center domain names and meta tags may not include Keller Williams trademarks without first procuring a license from Keller Williams. These trademarks include "Keller Williams," "KW," and any phrase that contains any combination of our name or initials (e.g. "KellerWilliamsSugarville.com" or "KWOH.com"). If you plan to register a domain name that contains Keller Williams' trademarks, you must FIRST contact the Legal Department legal@kw.com, as we have specific criteria for approving Market Center domain names. Be advised that unlicensed use of trademarks constitutes a violation of federal law, and we will force you to change or surrender your domain name.

To Forward a Domain in GoDaddy.com

Forwarding a domain name enables you to direct incoming traffic from a parked domain (ex. http://www.custom.com) to an existing Web site (Your KW website). When someone attempts to access your forwarded domain, their Web browser automatically redirects them to the specified Web site.Forwarding with Masking prevents visitors from knowing that they have been redirected by retaining your domain name in their Web browser's address bar. You can also add a title and meta tags to your masked domain. Title and meta tag information is important to a Web site’s search engine ranking, but it does not change the look of your Web site.

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. From the Domain Names menu, select Manage Domains. The Domain Control Center opens.
  3. In your list of domain names, select the checkbox next to the domain name(s) you want to forward.
  4. Click Forward.
  5. In the Domain Forwarding section, select Enable.
  6. In the Forward To field, enter the URL you want to forward your domain name(s) to.
  7. In the Redirect Type area, select one of the following: 301 Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a "301 Moved Permanently" HTTP response. The HTTP 301 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has permanently moved.   302 Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a "302 Found" HTTP response. The HTTP 302 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has temporarily moved.
  8. Click OK                                                                                                                                                                                                           [Back]

What is domain masking/cloaking?

Masking the destination Web address (also called cloaking) is a technique whereby your domain name www.MyDomain.com is forced to appear in the browser instead of your destination URL, say, http://www.geocities.com/mydomain/.

Thus, visitors to http://www.geocities.com/mydomain/ would see your domain name in their browser. The technique works best with a Web site that has a long URL, typically associated with free hosting.  You don't need it on your Keller Williams website.  In fact, it's known to cause problems with the featured properties focus box on your agent website as well as photos not being displayed on your listing page.
